Chess and Math
Similarities
- Both are competitive subjects, which you must take seriously.
- Both have many targets and goals, each ranging from easy to life-changing!
- Both can range from very easy problems to very hard challenges.
- In a problem, there can still be 2 or more solutions for both subjects.
- All chess tournaments and math competitions are timed, and it might affect you at the end.
Differences
- In math, you are the only main competitor, while in chess, the opponent is the person who is trying to decide the game.
- In chess, some quick games take only minutes, while math problems can take days!
- Math can be used everywhere in everyday life, while chess is just in some online websites and is also a board game.
- In most math competitions, your age matters, mostly just for anyone in 12th grade or under, while in chess, you can be a 5 year old kid or even a 100 year old parent!
- In chess, there are no special "formulas" to solve a problem, but in math, you've got tons of them!
- In chess, you are not allowed to cooperate, but sometimes in math competitions, you can talk and discuss your ideas.
